A stirring red wine from the northwest of Spain, due south of Galicia and right on the border of Portugal. This is Cabernet drawn from French rootstock, likely with some Cab Franc plants sprinkled in, but it's a mere 200 plants put down in 1999 by winemaker Juanjo of Microbodega del Alumbro, on Zamora's deeply sandy soils... The effect is mesmerizing. With several years of bottle age, this fully natural wine is mature, tasting like Old Spain in a good way - deep leather, old books, baked soil, and beautiful black fruit, but in no way is it missing life or freshness. Just a special bottle, one that makes us wish all countryside wines from Spain tasted this honest and satisfying.
