Grassy, white-floral-petaled, musky and salty all at once, this particular Malvasia (Castellana, also known up north in Spain as Doña Blanca) is a great entry into the "Aromatic white grapes don't have to be boring" collection. This bottling from Juanjo and Maribel of Microbodega del Alumbro is a single vineyard planted on pebbly sand and deeper clay all the way back in 1945; you absolutely can feel the concentration and persistence of this old vineyard on the palate. Kiwi, rocky notes, green Haribo candy, with power and a dry finish. Incredible wine for Thai food, fish sauce, boiled crabs, shrimp on the grill.
