Winemaker Laura Brennan’s new label, focused on the cool, forested, high-elevation of Underwood Mountain in the Columbia Gorge. This appellation right on the border of both Washington and Oregon is home to some of the U.S.’ most interesting vineyards, but no one really knows about this yet. Brennan’s bottling of Pinot Gris, from the neighboring organic and regenerative Zephyr Farm, is a terrific way to restore the reputation of this often bastardized grape - made either into green and insipid Mom Juice in the Veneto or into brawling macerated versions in New Alsace, this clear dry white is instead unapologetic in its power but also piercing in its clarity. Mountain Pinot Gris in the hands of Brennan is a thing to behold.
