Taru is considered one of the oldest types of sake in Japan, hailing from the region around Nara and traditionally aged in large wooden casks. This sake is aged in Yoshino cedar barrels - made by one of the only certified producers of such barrels left in Japan - and though it’s often reserved for festivals and special occasions, the brewers thought it was so good they decided to produce it to be drunk anytime. The flavor is a bit earthy and smokey with a bit of spiciness - definitely a sake to drink warm.
