Another stunner from Andalucía, a region in the south of Spain generally overlooked for great quality wines for several reasons: 1) it's too rural, 2) it’s not hip, and 3) all wine people generally say of Mediterranean places, ‘But it’s too hot!’ Where winemaker Paco Chinchilla of Puerto del León works, however, is located high in the mountains outside of the coastal city of Málaga, at nearly 850m of altitude. This means this naturally-made, very old-school Tempranillo and Cab blend is anything but bulky or hot; it is cooling, with eucalyptus and pine framing its classic cocoa, black fruit, and cigar box vibe. Just an amazing real Spanish natural wine with nothing connected to famous producers or appellations at all. Incredible value.
