Vandal Wines was set up by three unnamed, masked Marlborough winemakers as an escape from the restrictions of their day jobs, and a way to experiment with all sorts of unconventional blends and techniques. The Gonzo Combat Rouge is no exception - it is a rather unusual field blend of Pinot Noir, Syrah and Viognier which are co-fermented with whole cluster fermentation. The result is a beautifully supple yet plush and ripe red wine with raspberry and cherry fruit and a bit of spice. We’ve found it drinks best slightly chilled on a warm evening.
