Roman Štekar and his son Jure run this family winery and agriturismo in the beautiful hills of western Slovenia, which border Friuli in Italy. Via organic farming and gentle winemaking, they strive to show true regional terroir, making wines solely with local grape varieties, fermenting with native yeasts in neutral oak, and only using small amounts of SO2. This Malvazija is a great example of how a floral variety can be made into something balanced, with great structure: notes of herbs, acacia, honey, and orange peel. Beautiful with Thai food or green curries, excellent with prosciutto.
