Peter Wetzer's Furmint comes from a single vineyard, Szt. Marton, located on the eastern flank of the famous Hungarian volcano called Somló. It means these Furmint grapes, planted in 1989 and farmed organically, are deeply influenced by basalt and tufa, the volcanic rock on which they're grounded: fiery minerality interacts with pretty, succulent fruit, like melon, white peach, and a touch of pineapple. Fabulous stuff and matches with a serious range of cuisine.
