A beautiful mezcal from distiller Benigno Sanchez in the Guerrero district, bottled by the brand Mezcalosfera. Papalote is a small and spiky plant compared to its big Espadin cousins, and that’s not a bad comparison to keep in mind for the flavor profile as well. Tree sap, canela, caramelized mango, and evergreen zest. For this bottling, Benigo mills the agave by hand, ferments with native yeast and smokes with local mesquite. Honest, subtle Oaxacan work—this is a deep, savory, elegant spirit, unlike other smoky and one-note mezcal we've seen. A must-have if you love agave.
