High-elevation Macabeu and Grenache Gris (the pink kind!) on calcareous, black shale soils: all the makings of a very interesting Mediterranean white from the southwestern coast of France. These thick-skinned grape varieties lend themselves to a fuller-bodied white wine, and this one, once given air, has tons of flowers, silty soil notes, and fleshy white fruit. A great replacement for those people in your life who only drink Chardonnay, and a great bottle to return to: on day two open, this wine from La Bancale tastes amazing.
