100% Teroldego made by icon Elisabetta Foradori. Local dialect for 'vine shoot,' 'Sgarzon' is a cooler, sandier 2.5 hectare plot within Foradori's whole vineyard holdings, located on the Campo Rotaliano plateau in the foothills of the Dolomites. Foradori planted these vines from selection massale cuttings in 1984; the farming is certified biodynamic; harvest is always by hand. For 'Sgarzon,' the grapes are destemmed, with the fruit going directly into clay amphorae for an open-top fermentation without sulfur; the vessels are then closed for 6-8 months of maceration. An elegant, perfumed, brooding red wine, with a color so dark as to be almost purple-black, but a silty, refined texture. Foradori is a master of the amphora-raised style of wine in alpine Italy. Very special stuff.
