2015 was the first vintage in which Fonterenza singled out this single parcel from its original Rosso di Montalcino vineyard sites. Since grafting new Sangiovese vines in this particular plot in 2005 and trained them in a special, old-school 'alberello' style on wires, the Padovani sisters have seen it's a unique expression of Sangiovese. Like the other Rosso plots, it is farmed biodynamically and harvested by hand, but with much lower yields and greater concentration due to the alberello training. Medium-weight, highly aromatic, refined. This isn't some clumsy, oaky Rosso di Montalcino you'll find in any osteria—it's the real deal, involving a crazy amount of physical labor and dedication.
