Florèz winemaker James Jelks shares with us the origin of the name of this red wine, which is loosely inspired by the red-and-white old blends of the Languedoc-Roussillon: "Pinard is French slang for wine, originating from the WWI-rationed wine that French infantrymen loved so much. The infantryman themselves also had a slang name: poilu or ‘hairy one,' as they typically were rustic countrymen sporting bushy mustaches or beards." This homage red is built off a few experimental rows of fruit from the Gemelli vineyard in the Cienega valley: Grenache and Mourvèdre co-fermented with Viognier and Muscat renders a floral, fresh, medium-bodied red wine, with notes of orange blossom, rose and mandarin. James likes it with a slight chill.
