Each piece is carefully hand built, meticulously burnished and then beautifully fired in an open fire. The clay is mined by the women at a nearby mountain. Vehicles cannot reach the red clay deposit so the women need to hike up, dig the clay and carry the clay bags back.
Materials: Red clay. Made in San Marcos Tlapazola, Oaxaca by the Mujeres del Barro Rojo (Women of the Red Clay)
Hand wash and air dry only. We don’t advise using a microwave or submerging the piece in cold water when warm. It is normal for clay to sweat at the beginning, if this happens, cure the piece by submerging it for 24 hours in saltwater. Avoid leaving the piece in water for more than three days, it could soften and break.
