We've been fans of the wines of José Miguel Márquez for years, winemaker of Marenas who operates in Córdoba in the south of Spain. Everyone will tell you it's too hot there to make balanced wines, but these vines, planted by Márquez himself in the early 2000s, are at high elevations and are treated totally naturally, leading to fruit with beautiful native balance and correct levels of ripeness and acidity. 'Casilla Las Flores' is the best Spanish Pinot Noir we know of, with pure and ripe red fruit, like a strawberry reduction, layered over clear minerality and with freshness to boot. All of the wines of Marenas are a steal for the price.
