Fonterenza hand-harvests fruit from its 1.7-hectare Brunello parcel, called 'Vigna del Bosco,' earlier for their rosato. Yes, you heard that right: this is declassified Brunello fruit being made into rosé, which is a wild thing to do from the vantage point of profit. The resultant quality in this pink wine is ridiculous, though it is made simply: the fruit is direct-pressed, juice left overnight on the skins, fermented and aged in stainless steel. But nothing the Fonterenza sisters do is really simple: consider this a more structured, layered rosato that will do magical things with your first springtime outside cooking session. Stands up vegetables charred on the grill and punchy puttanesca pasta. Highly recommend.
